Anyone know of a program that uses the actual Wii Guitar Hero drums to play drums? Wii play the drums is cool, but being able to use drumkit would be great. Tried glovepie program but never able to get it to work.

For a better usebility I´d like to have some Changes:

1. Audio Driver: for more possibilitys : It would be better to be able to select between different audio drivers on the system (if they are available)

2. Modus: The software should work in background too. I´d like to use it on stage, but my mainprogramm cubase works all the time. To us wmptd, I have to activte it first with a click on the Window. (no hands free, wmptd should work in background and everything would be ok .

3. a perfect upgrade would be a possibilty to send MIDI Drum Informations to other applications.

At last let me say, the move to pc conversation is here better than other progs I have testet (glove Pie, WiiInstrument), and with the changes I told before It would be the best you can get .
I'm using Vista 64 bits
I've had more fun using my wiimotes on my PC than on my actual Wii. This is certainly easier said than done, even more so because I have absolutely NO programming ability (yet) but then again I'm more of a leader and not a fighter. Just my opinion though.

The preset file you mentioned is automatically created on startup for you. It sounds like you have a permissions problem. Try giving your user account on the wii play the drums folder permission for read and write. Check the other folders permissions for wii play the drums as well. When you have the permissions on the folders set correctly, start up the program again. If this does not work, uninstall the program, delete any left over folders after unstall, then reinstall. Let me know if this works for you.

Ok, when I start WPTD I can connect my two wiimotes just fine (by the way I'm running Vista Home Premium with an Iogear BT dongle with Broadcomm BT drivers), I see the test connection screen and can press the "Test Connection" button with no problems, but after the dialog box closes another one pops up with the heading:

Test Wiimote Connection

The body of the box is:

Unhandled exception has occured in your application. If you click
Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If
you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

Access to the path 'C:\Program Files\Wii Play The
Drums\Presets\Standard Drum Kit.preset' is denied

Then there is a Details drop down menu which says this:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I've checked the presets folder and it's empty, also when I click Continue the dialog box dissapears and all i see is the desktop, it shows the app as still running on the startbar but nothing happens and when i mouse over the start bar i can see the app homescreen but it wont show it on the desktop.

I'd really love to try this program and any help would be greatly appriciated!!!

I just need to get a proper sound card in this computer. This sound max has always been flakey for me. I have a proper set up on my other computer. I will eventually set it up on there as that is where I play with my music stuff.

Thanks for all your help.

If you are, Vista by default has recording devices disabled and hidden. Try this page for help on enabling and showing recording devices. http://www.applian.com/support-vista.php

If you are on XP, then go through your audio properties and make sure that you have everything in there squared away for recording. If you can get your microphone to record and play back, then you are configured properly, if not, keep trying different things.

Can be a pain at first to get your computer configured for recording, but once you do have things configured properly, recording in Wii Play The Drums will start working for you. Never hurts to make sure you have all the current drivers as well.
This would be handy when playing along with songs if you want to tone down the drums a little.
